MEA-Retired Officers

MEA - Retired President Kay Walker-Telma

Kay Walker Telma will begin her three-year term as President of MEA-Retired September 1. She has served as the organization’s VicePresident since 2016, and was previously the Region 15 delegate to the MEA-Retired Board of Directors. She is President of the Grand Traverse Bay Area chapter of MEA-Retired, and has served on the chapter’s Executive Board since 2003. “How fortunate I am to have had mentors like Judy Foster, Dan Rudd, Harvey Miller and Larry Dodd during the last few years,” she said. “I am excited to be part of the 201922 leadership team and will continue to rely on the support of these outstanding leaders. It is crucial that we continue addressing the important issues facing both retirees and current public school employees. MEA-Retired is a vital, dynamic organization that will effectively serve its members now and in the years to come.” A Traverse City Area Public Schools teacher from 1976-2003, she was president of the Traverse City EA from 2001-2003, UniServ Field Assistant in the MEA 15-A (Traverse City) office from 2003-2013 and temporary UniServ Director in 2013. She enjoys living in the beautiful Grand Traverse area, walking, reading, traveling and spending wonderful time with family and friends.

MEA - Retired Vice President - Judy Daley

Judy Daley

Judy Daley continues her long-time union activism as the MEA‑Retired Vice-President-elect. As the past St. Clair-Sanilac County MEA‑Retired President, she has participated in the Presidents’ Conclave and served as the MEA‑Retired liaison to the MEA Art Acquisition Committee and on the MEA‑Retired Elections and Chapter Development Committees. A delegate to the MEA‑Retired Annual Meeting and both the MEA and NEA RA, Judy is also the current MEA‑Retired NEA RA Coordinator for the 37--delegate group. “My goal is to continue my activism by addressing the critical issues that our public schools, our union and both active and retired MEA members are facing,” she said. A former Harbor Beach special education teacher and HBEA President, she held a number of positions at the regional and state level, and worked for MEA as both an E‑Dues SNAP Assistant as well as a temporary UniServ Director. Judy is a proud CMU alumna, and in her spare time she enjoys returning to her alma mater, spending time with her family and friends and starting a home-based business.

MEA - Retired Secretary/Treasurer - Dan Rudd

MEA-Retired Secretary-Treasurer, Daniel Rudd, retired in 2005 after 37½ years in Huron Valley where he taught elementary for 12½ years and then middle school for the last 25 years. During that time, he held various positions in his local association, including MEA RA and NEA RA Delegate, Treasurer, Membership Chair, and President. In April 2019, he was elected to his fifth three-year term as Secretary/ Treasurer of MEA-Retired. Dan also served 6 years on the NEA Board of Directors representing retirees. He currently serves as an officer of several Retired Chapters as well as Secretary of NEA-Retired. He and his wife, Helen, have resided in Howell since 2005. They enjoy spending time with their grandchildren, Grant, a freshman at Schoolcraft College, and Tori, a Junior at Livonia Franklia.
